What is a Widget?

A widget is a small piece of Web programming code that gives a user an interesting, and often informative, plug-in for use on a blog, wiki, social networking profile, or Web page. A widget may feature information that gets automatic updates--weekly or even daily, for instance. Or, a widget may offer the Web user with a helpful search tool.

Widgets & Your Social Networking Profile

The first three widgets listed below—Make a Pledge Flag, Take Care of Texas Banner Ad and Countdown to Earth Day—can be embedded on your Facebook and MySpace pages. To place a widget on your Facebook page, simply click the “Share on Facebook” button beneath the widget image. To place a widget on your MySpace page, simply copy and paste the below code to the area you would like the widget to appear.
